Books That Helped Me When I Needed Strength

My whole life I have been an avid reader and after high school, I would even keep a dictionary next to my books so I could look up words I didn't know. Where I once lived for all things fiction, after becoming a mom and ultimately going through my divorce, did I dive headfirst into self-help/advice, spiritual, autobiographies and memoirs. These books now fill my shelves and my audible account. I love them and am always inspired by the women authors of some of my favorite books.

I'm also someone who is easily reading three books at a time - sometimes all self-help - so I’ve done the legwork on this one, trust me! Here are the ones that helped me pick myself up off of the floor when I was walking through some of my darkest days. I am forever recommending these books to friends, which of course includes you guys!

Glennon Doyle - "Love Warrior" and "Carry On, Warrior: Thoughts on Life Unarmed"

You’ve likely heard of Glennon Doyle as she’s BLOWN UP in the last few years. These two books are very high up there on my list and suggest them no matter where you are in life.

Brené Brown - "Rising Strong" and "Braving the Wilderness"

If you’re not familiar with Brene Brown, you need to be! I've read all of her work and ya can't go wrong with anything.

Oprah Winfrey - "The Path Made Clear: Discovering Your Life's Direction and Purpose"

I mentioned I have audible above and this is one of the books I preferred to listen to vs reading because you hear the voices of those being interviewed.

Gabrielle Bernstein - "The Universe Has Your Back"

Another super strong woman I really admire and is an author of several amazing books.

Shonda Rhimes - "Year of Yes"

Shonda Rhimes is the creator of all your favorite TV shows from Grey’s Anatomy to Bridgerton to Scandal. She is SMART and has so much insight and wisdom to offer.

Elizabeth Gilbert - "Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear"

This book gives me so much joy (I mean just look at the cover art) and is an easy one to re-read at the beginning of every year or any time you need a creative boost.
