5 Small Healthy Habits That Can Change Your Life
The title of this post might feel a bit dramatic, but in my experience, it’s the little things that add up to make the biggest difference, especially when it comes to health and wellness. Everyone has their own rituals and routines when it comes to this stuff, and I’m a big supporter of doing what works best for you, but I thought putting these 5 tips out there might help anyone looking to make a change! I hope they’re helpful!
1. The one minute rule
This is a super basic and easy rule I try to live by. It’s just as simple as it sounds: If it takes you less than one minute to complete, you should do it right then! This includes making your bed, responding to that text, putting the dishes in the dishwasher, etc. Building this habit and sticking to it can take some time, but I promise the impact is huge!!
2. Drink all the water!
One of the greatest hacks I’ve learned on this front is downloading a water app (I love this app and it will even ping me on my Apple watch!) on my phone to hold me accountable! Or you could also get a water bottle that tracks the number of ounces you’ve drank like this one. Something else I recommend is starting your day with 16oz of water BEFORE you have your coffee/tea in the morning. I feel like doing this helps wake up plus I get a headstart on my water intake for the day!
3. Prep to save time
I practice my morning drills in what I sleep in and leave my mat rolled out ready to go. I get out of bed in my bodysuit and start my 25-30 mins of drills so if I can’t get any more time on my mat for the day I at least have those done. I also added a space heater to my yoga space because getting out of a warm cozy bed to go to a cold room is the WORST! Keep it inviting!
4. Limit sugar
This one is short and sweet (pun intended) - limit the sugar! When I feel my absolute best I know it’s because I’ve kept added sugars to a minimum and I stopped eating after dinner.
5. Sleep 8+ hours every night
I am a BIG fan of sleep! I always get 8+ hours of sleep each night and always set the mood for bedtime: overhead lights off, lamps and candles on. I also have a black belt in napping and know that with my cycle each month, I go through a week of needing little 20-minute power naps to reset me for the afternoon!
