My Self-Care Routine Outside of Yoga
Exercise and movement are a huge part of how I take care of both my physical and mental health, which is a huge part of what you see on my Instagram. But there are actually quite a few things I try to focus on to make sure I'm taking of myself and putting myself in a position to be a good mom, partner and instructor! I challenge you to add at least a few of these to your routine this week!
1. Water, water, water!
I drink a TON of water every day! Right when I wake up I down 16-20 ounces first thing. It's easy to do because I find myself naturally thirsty in the morning, plus it knocks out a big chunk of the 96 ounces I try to drink each day right away!
2. Work/life balance
This is, of course, easier said than done but I pick a time every day that I'm going to stop working and I stick to it! Even if this means you have to get up a bit earlier, it's worth it to be able to keep this promise to yourself.
3. Positive language and self-talk
I talked about this recently here, but basically I've learned that how I speak about myself both alone and in front of my kiddos matters so I'm really working on keeping it very positive.
4. Lots of Sleep
Eight to nine hours every single night! Probably one of the most underrated ways to keep yourself healthy, honestly. I know I can always tell when I'm not sleeping well.
5. Filling my home with plants
This might sound odd, but filling my home with live plants has brought me so much joy!
6. Hydrate my skin like crazy
I'm absolutely obsessed with serums! My absolute favorite is Vintner's Daughter and I'm also a huge fan of Drunk Elephant. Linked several of my must-haves below for ya! When it comes to application though, I've always been told to get maximum effect from a product, you want to put it on within five minutes of getting out of the shower. I think because your pores are still open from the steam and hot water!
